| Pam Peck,
the owner of Pam's Quilted Memories has been sewing
since she was a young girl and took her first
stitches on her grandmother's treadle sewing
machine. For years Pam made her own clothes, then
shirts and suits for her husband and moved into
children's clothing for her sons. |
|
In the 80's, Pam
took a class for Log Cabin Quilts and hasn't looked
back since. Pam has learned a lot over the years
through classes, books and her own imagination. |
|
When Pam's sons
married she wanted to do something special and as a
result her idea of a
Wedding Memory Quilt was
created. Lace from Pam's own wedding gown was sewn
into the quilt for good luck. Now her Memory Quilts
are gifts to her nieces and nephews as they marry. |
| Whether
small, medium or large,
traditional,
contemporary or
art, Pam creates custom quilts, transforming fabric
into functional bed quilts,
baby quilts, lap
quilts
or wall hangings. The most elegant being the
Memory
Quilts. |
|
Entering
quilt shows and challenges has provided
inspiration to improve and broaden Pam's
abilities and techniques. Fons & Porter's Love
of Quilting magazine published an article on
Quilting Designer Pam Peck. |

From Pam ~ In Her Studio |
|
Over the
years my sewing room moved out of the dining
room, into a spare bedroom, to the family room
and now finally into what once was our living
room. Since most of our time was spent only
watching television there, it just seemed like
the right thing to move the TV into the family
room and all my stuff into the larger room. It
still seems like a tight fit sometimes but
everything has its place and it works just right
for me. Someday, who knows, I may actually have
a separate studio, but I am not holding my
breath. |
|
This is my
APQS Millennium long arm, which I love. It sure has made
my life a lot easier finishing quilts. I love to
piece, but quilting was always such a hassle
that I had sworn off large quilts
altogether. Now I can make them as large as I
want. Well, within reason that is. I have four
large bookshelves that hold my stash, which took
me over 15 years to gather. Some people save
money for their retirement, I saved fabric. Good
thing my husband took care of the retirement
part. The three rolls are muslin that can be
unrolled to cover and protect my fabric from the
sunlight or can be used as a design wall. I made
them with large hems to insert a swimming pool
Styrofoam noodle, so they are light weight. The
top of the fabric have Velcro sewn on and attach
to the tops of the bookcases, where I stapled
the other half of the Velcro. That way if it
gets dirty or I want to take it with me
somewhere, all I have to do is zip it off. |
|
My desk sits
in one corner and it tends to be my design and
information center. What would we do without the
internet? |
|
My sewing
machine sits in what used to be the dining room.
Having the long arm sit on carpet it nice but
the tile makes cleaning up all those pesky loose
threads a lot easier. Strange how fast those
dust bunnies can grow so large! |
|
The cutting
table/second storage area sits in the middle of
the room. I can work from here and reach just
about anything I need from there. Unfortunately
it gathers articles almost as fast as the dust
bunnies grow and I need to clear it off each
time I start a new cutting project. But I have
visited many a quilt shops that have the same
problem so I will just chalk it up to a case of
an active work center. |
|
My ironing
board is an old cutting table that I made an
insulated cover for. It works great and I have
no problem with things falling off to the floor
as with a regular ironing board. I can open it
part way or all the way, depending on what I am
working with. It then folds down and sits
against the wall when not is use. |
|
All in all it
is a wonderful place for me to spend my days.
What better than to live in Paradise and do what
you love to do all day long? I must have done
something right in my life. |
